Episode 44: Human Emotions: The Two Factor Theory

Schacter and Singer suspension bridge suproxin study

Where do our emotions come from? From our thoughts? Or do they begin somewhere else – like in our bodies? This week we look at the work of James-Lange, Cannon-Bard, and Schachter and Singer. Also, I review two classic studies in the history of psychology: the Suproxin study (the basis for the well known (two factor theory of emotion) and the Suspension Bridge study. This week the Good, the Bad and the Ugly….Betty of emotions. Oh yes, and what does the TV show Ugly Betty have to do with all this? Find out this week on The Psych Files.

Not sure what you’re thinking when you say “stream”. The episode is available through every podcast streaming app – is that what you’re thinking?

Hello!I love this episode and use it for my AP Psych class. Any chance I can find this to stream? I was going to talk this through with my students Monday, 2/27/22.

Unfortunately it’s just too cost prohibitive for me to transcribe all the episodes. Sorry about that. Here’s what I could do though: if you send me an email I could put the mp3’s for those episodes in a place where you can download them to your computer and after that you wouldn’t have any problem trying to stream them across the internet.

Are the episods available in PDF format? I love the PsychFiles but then listening isn’t working for me. I’m a student at Malawi College of Health Sciences, our psychology lecturer recommended that we listen/watch four episods; Body Language, Attraction Theories, Asylums – an interview with Jenifer Bazzar and How to get good grades.

Our internet connection is very poor and i’ve been trying to get the podcasts but its not working. So i was wondering if the podcasts are also available in document format.

    Thank you.
Keep up with the good work.
